Before & After Edits of Beach Photos | Oklahoma City Photographer Feb 2017

before and after edits of children playing in the sand at the beach oklahoma city photographer

I took these photos last May when we visited North Padre Island in Texas.  We took a quick family trip down there for Memorial Day weekend.  It was perfect.  Both of these photos were taken the evening we arrived.  We took a walk down to the beach right around sunset.  We didn’t get to stay long, but that didn’t stop the kiddos from having a great time in the sand!

I haven’t been using Photoshop for long.  Maybe three years now.  In the beginning I only did very basic edits, but I wanted to learn more so I would watch youtube video after youtube video, I bought several Break Outs from Clickin Moms, I searched the internet for anyone giving any advice, photoshop or photography related, I read every article I could.  You name it, I did it all.  Some days I thought I was really making progress and the next I just wanted to give up.  I eventually started using actions from CoffeeShop Blog.  They are all free so if you are just starting out, this is a great place for you!  After using their actions for a while, I decided to make my own and I used those for several months.  For a little over a year now I have hand edited all of my photos in Camera Raw.  I’m still not where I want to be, but I am much closer than I was this time last year.  I think my problem is there are so many different looks that I love and I have a hard time picking just one.  GASP!  Every article I read says you must have one look and stick with it.  I get it, I really do.  It’s just hard.  LOL.  At the beginning of the year, I broke down and bought the Innocence Collection from Greater Than Gatsby.  Honestly, the only reason I bought the collection was because it was on sale.  It popped up on my Facebook newsfeed and I was like “sure, I’ll buy that”.  I have played around with them quite a bit and I really do like a lot of them.  I still edit my client work by hand, but I have been using the GTG for a good deal of my personal photos lately.

So for the two photos below I used Savory Film, Moody, Sand and Water Brushes, and Contrast Classic.  I also added in the pink and blues for the sky.

I know the photos aren’t perfect.  I wish I would have angled a little different so their heads didn’t cut through the horizon, but that’s ok.  I look at the photos and remember the great evening we had and that’s all that matters  🙂

My little girl & gold glitter | Oklahoma City Photographer Feb 2017

close up of little girls feet covered in gold glitter

Glitter for days!  I originally saw this on one of the amazing Facebook groups I’m in and thought I would give it a try with my daughter.  I ordered the seamless paper and dress from Amazon and bought the glitter from Hobby Lobby.  I used regular as well as jumbo glitter.  I know a lot of photographers use glitter overlays but I didn’t have to with this shoot.  Our living room isn’t very big, but right in front of my desk is a bay window area.  I opened the blinds and hung up a cheap white shower curtain that I purchased on sale months ago from the Dollar General.  I rolled the paper out, dressed my daughter, and had my husband and son throw glitter towards her.  She had tons of fun and I got some pretty cute photos that I plan on blowing up and hanging on her bedroom wall.  After all, what little girl doesn’t love dressing like a princess and playing in glitter?!?!

The glitter was a pain to clean up, but honestly, I’d do it again.  I mean, look at those little glitter covered toes.  So freaking cute.  🙂

High School Senior Girl Session in Deep Deuce District | Oklahoma City Photographer 2017

Oh my sweet, sweet Ashlyn.  It is always such a pleasure to photograph this beautiful High School Senior.  Ashlyn is on the my senior reps from Amanda Lynn Photography.  I first met her at the beginning of last summer.  We did a quick photoshoot in the pasture behind my house.  Since then, I have photographed her three other times, but this session was her big senior session.  We had so much fun walking all over downtown OKC.  We started in Bricktown and eventually made our way over to the Deep Deuce District. which is where the photos below were taken.  The top two photos were taken outside of the Leaf and Bean located in Deep Deuce.  Every time I have a photoshoot in the area, we always stop in to grab a coffee.  I love that place.  They are always so friendly.  The third photo was taken outside of some apartment complexes about a block away.  Ashlyn’s a natural in front of the camera.

I have a least one more photoshoot with Ashlyn at the end of January.  We will be using her horses for that shoot.  I’m so excited!

High School Senior Girl and Christmas Lights in Automobile Alley | Oklahoma City Photographer 2017

Anya was one of my 2017 High School Senior Reps through BBP Studios in Edmond, Oklahoma.  I met Anya and her mom in Automobile Alley for her photo session.  She brought her violin, and although not pictured, they were some of my favorite photos from her session.  We walked all over Automobile Alley and were about to part ways when I noticed the lights had just turned on a block to the south of us.  Every Christmas, all of the buildings located on Broadway in Automobile Alley hang lights from the rooftops to the ground.  Every building is a different color.  Although I’ve never attended, they have a celebration in the area and all of the buildings turn their lights on at the same time (or so I’ve been told).  Anyway, I told Anya that I just wanted to grab a couple more shots in front of the lights and then we could call it a night.  Interestingly, LED lights can be hard to photograph.  I’m not 100% sure why, but every other photo the lights weren’t glowing.  These are two of my favorite photos from the session, and of course, I had to make one black and white.  Love it!

High School Senior Girl Photo Session in Automobile Alley | Oklahoma City Photographer 2017

Gracie was one of my favorite high school seniors to photograph in the fall of 2016.  It was the first real cold day we had that fall and we had actually talked about rescheduling because it was so cold and windy, but we did the shoot despite the weather and I am so glad we did.  We had so much fun, even tho we just about froze.  She brought her sweet new puppy to her shoot.  I can’t remember the puppies name, but man he was a cutie.  His eyes were the most beautiful shade of blue.  We walked all over Automobile Alley in Oklahoma City and got some pretty amazing shots of her.

I took the photo on the left in front of a gray building and changed it to a pretty blue in post processing.  I also added the snow in post processing to give it more of a cold winter look.  I used my Canon 6d and Canon 70-200mm 2.8.

Beautiful Maternity Photos Wearing Long Maternity Gowns | Oklahoma City Photographer 2017

Oh my goodness, how beautiful does she look?  Kelsey is my niece.  She is also a first for most of my photo shoots.  First engagement, first wedding, first baby announcement, etc.  She isn’t my first maternity, but she is my favorite maternity to date.  She contacted me about a week before Christmas to see if we could do maternity photos after the holiday celebrations.  My first thought was OF COURSE.  My second, we need some gowns!  I searched on etsy and amazon for hours, but most of the expectant delivery dates were in early to mid January.  That wasn’t going to work.  Luckily  I ran across Britni C’s page on Etsy.  She had a few pre-made gowns that would arrive just in time for the shoot and man, I’m glad they did!  Seriously, Kelsey looks amazing.  Motherhood looks great on her and I can’t wait to meet baby C!

High School Senior Girl Shoot in Tulsa, Oklahoma | Oklahoma City Photographer 2017

high school senior sitting in grass throwing fall leaves in air at park in tulsa oklahoma

We drove to Tulsa, Oklahoma for this senior photo shoot.  I met Alycia, her mother and grandmother, in downtown Tulsa about an hour before sunset.  We snapped a couple of photos at the Trinity Episcopal Church.  If you have never been there, they have an amazing red door that is a perfect backdrop for photos.  Next we headed over to Woodward Park.  It was such a beautiful evening, and although it was late November, the trees were still so beautiful and full of fall colors.

Alycia had knee surgery earlier in the fall and was actually on crutches at the time of her photo shoot.  You would never know it tho.  She did amazing!  She had so many ideas and brought some great props to showcase her personality, including her bible, purity ring, and her grandfathers plaid shirt (pictured left).  I had so much fun with her an look forward to seeing her again!
